Kitchen Cabinet Color

Well, I hope you all had an amazing weekend and enjoyed celebrating this amazing country we live in. I will document some of my thoughts for a post later this week.

For this week I thought I'd document a bit about the kitchen and the progress we've made there.  It has come a long way and I am really liking how it's turned out so far.

Picking paint color is a hard thing for me to do and I hesitate recommending any color for any one person because everyone's home is different and lighting has a lot to do with how certain paints look.  The color I painted basically my entire house in looks amazing in this house, but in a friends home it looked awful (I will blog more about that another day).  You really just have to pick colors you like at the store and then bring them home to see if they work.  It's truly trial and error.

Trial and error is what ended up happening with the kitchen cabinets.  I knew I wanted them blue, but it  really had to be j.u.s.t. the right color blue or it was going to look bad.  The first color I put on was by Sherwin Williams called "Basin Blue'   I was SURE it was correct, but it definitely wasn't.  It came out looking royal blue - think painters tape blue - and that was SO not the color I was going for.  I discovered one of the problems was that a really dark blue is hard to get.  I also needed it so have a "smokey" hue to it to match the gray floors.  I ended up having to go with Benjamin Moore for the winner color.  It's called "Polo Blue" I am very happy with the results.

As for the top, I used an old color that I have loved called Cream Delight by Valspar.  It is the color of all my trim as well and was the color I used in my last house for the kitchen cabinets and trim.  Sometimes you just have to stick with a good thing and fortunately this color worked in this house.  It looks white but has a touch of cream in it so it's soft and warm.

To see the transformation to date, lets look at some befores:

And here are the afters:

BUT, everything looks better with this face in front of it......

.....wouldn't you agree?!?!?!

Clearly many things are still undone.  When we put the counter top on we had to move the long board on the back of the base cabinets back, thus creating a gap.  Our contractor put in a piece of trim which clearly still needs to be painted.  We also forgot to paint the cabinet that goes above the microwave since it was out and amongst all the stuff in the garage and got forgotten in the process.  Back splash and trim are also needed, but we will get there.

Tomorrow I will blog about the hardware choices I made for in here and Thursday we will go over the floor choice.  I'm thrilled with both.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Reality Check:

My kitchen counters never look that clear.  I piled all the stuff on the kitchen table and someone enjoyed themselves with make-believe cooking.  So cute!
