Not Everybody's Martha (November Challenge Day #13)

Several years ago I remember watching The Martha Stewart Show where she was explaining how to make the perfect egg sandwich.  Up to this point I had enjoyed her show even though many of her projects and recipes were a little over the top for me.  What took it to a whole new level this particular day was when she mentioned that in order to make it the best of the best, you would have to go get a fresh egg from your chickens out back.  I was done with her.  REALLY?!?!?

Now I know that having chickens is all the rage these days and I have no problem with people who have chickens.  In fact, I honestly would have some if I could but I don't think our neighborhood would allow it.  But, the ignorance on Martha's part in who her audience was and what she was expecting of them just pushed me to my Martha Stewart loving end.  Is one really to believe that all there egg sandwich making ways are doomed if they don't have fresh chicken eggs?  I think not.

This little experience with Martha brings up a good example in the entertaining ways of us "common" folk.  It is important to remember that everyone has their own style and their own way and that is OK!

I entertain on a semi-regular basis and I will admit that on most occasions I go a bit above and beyond what most others would do.  I like to set a pretty table, I have placemats and clothe napkins, and I'm not afraid to use breakable things (as mentioned in THIS post).  But guess what, just because I do like to entertain that way doesn't mean that I expect everyone else to do the same.  If fact, I don't want you to!  That's my style and when I come to your house I want to see your style.  Believe it or not, I always learn from watching others entertain.

One of the main reasons I do entertain on a fancier level is because it's my way of showing you that you're important and worth it.  There are countless ways we each can do that and the important thing is to find how you make others feel important and then do it and do it well all while not comparing yourself to someone else.

For some of you that will mean you are as Martha as they come and could probably have your own TV show, and for others it means you are great at calling a friend up and asking her to meet you at the local McDonalds so you can chat and catch up.  Either way, if your motivation is out of care, concern, and making someone feel special, where and how you connect will matter little.

So be you Martha or her backward twin, find your style and step up to it with confidence.  I guarantee you and all those around you will be a better person for it.  And the world will be a bit happier even if your egg sandwich came from an egg bought at Walmart - the horrors I know!
