When we were growing up we would always find a family who had less then we did and get things for them. I remember one family in particular that made a lasting impression on me. At the time I acted as part of my schools "Safety Patrol" each morning helping the kids off the bus and come into the school. There was one particular kindergartner who just stole my heart. He was shy and sweet and you could tell from his clothes and other things that he came from a family that didn't have much. On my asking, my mom inquired about his family with the school nurse and we were given a list of things they wanted/needed. I still remember sneaking up to his house, placing the items on his front porch, and ringing the bell right before we ran as fast as we could to the car and sped away undetected. The feeling doing something like that left me with was priceless. It's lasting impression is evident in that I remember doing this service but I couldn't tell you one thing I got for Christmas that year. The gifts we get are never as meaningful as the things we give.
I hope we can all find ways to serve others this holiday season and to help those around us feel loved and appreciated. I guarantee you will get way more out of giving then by anything you may receive.
I'd like to share this video with you as well. I think it's a beautiful portrayal of what I'm trying to express.
Happy Sabbath Day!!
